1. Who can apply for BoardLinkStL?

Individuals must be 18 years of age. You must have the desire to lead and the time to commit to serve on a board and be willing to learn and share with other professionals in the community.

2. Is there a fee for individuals to participate?

Yes! The $50.00 training fee covers the readiness manual, matching process (upon completion of the workshop) and access to the Organization web profiles for one year. You can pay your fees online. Scholarships are available by contacting us.

3. What will I learn in the Readiness to ServeWorkshop?

The Readiness Workshop is designed to prepare you for board service in a nonprofit organization. The 2 hour session will provide you with an overview of the nonprofit sector, the basic roles and responsibilities of the board of director, how to determine the right board to serve on, and an overview of the kinds of questions to ask.

4. How will I be matched to an organization?

There are four parts to the matching process:

  • Readiness To Serve Workshop: You attend a workshop where you will receive the latest in board and leadership education and assistance creating your profile (The $50 fee is paid online or at the Workshop)
  • Online Profile: Create your profile and it is activated after you attend and pay the fee. BoardLinkStL will match your profile with the criteria described by organizations
  • Online Access: Once activated, you can search in greater detail for nonprofit organizations matching your interests
  • Making Contact:You might identify an organization matching your interests. BoardLinkStL will connect you to the organization by email. If the match looks right, an exploratory phone call and then in-person meeting should follow. You are under no obligation to join the board of any of these organizations during the exploratory phase. Your profile will stay active in the system and be available to all organizations with matching criteria. Your name will not appear on the profile. The organization will then send an email to you suggesting a match call. You will have the opportunity to move forward or to keep looking. This screening process is the role of the board and individual. BoardLinkStL does not guarantee that you will be on a board of directors. If the online computerized matching service does not provide you with the profile information you need or does not result in any contacts from nonprofits, we will do our best to assist you in the initial matching process and will work with you to help you find a board that matches your interests.
5. When is the next BoardLinkStL information session or Readiness Workshop?

Check on the BoardLinkStL calendar.

6. If I do not want to commit to a board, are there other nonprofit volunteer positions?

BoardLinkStL invites nonprofit organizations looking for volunteers to serve on committees as well as board positions. The process for searching and matching is the same one as for a board position.

7. How can my company get involved?

Many companies encourage their employees to participate in their community and refer their employees to BoardLinkStL. Board service is the most important volunteer opportunity in the community. Board service helps individuals connect to their community, improve leadership skills, and provide needed services to community organizations. A company can invite BoardLinkStL to present a 30 minute orientation on site or sponsor a Readiness workshop. Companies are invited to financially support their employee BoardLinkStL activity. Businesses interested in pursuing BoardLinkStL should contact us .
